Veterans Services Day at the Festival Farmers Market
Saturday, July 22nd, Festival Farmers Market of Cobleskill NY, hosts another of its regular season special events at the location of McCarthy Tire Services parking lot at 942 E. Main St.
This day is designated as “VETERANS SERVICES DAY” when benefits information and resources, including the passing out of $20 Veterans Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons, are available to veterans and their families. VA Healthcare eligibility can be determined and applications completed with on-site assistance provided as needed. Representatives for the federal government along with NYS and county levels of veteran benefits services are expected to be present: Albany VA Medical Center – Veterans Service Center, NYS Division of Veterans Affairs, and Schoharie County Veteran’s Service Agency.
Also… the second in the series of CHEF DEMONSTRATIONS will be held as well that day. This Saturday features CHEF TIM ORTH from the local Bull’s Head Inn, from 11am -1pm, supported by Bassett Health Care’s 5-2-1-0 Healthy Lifestyle Initiative grant. He will be sharing preparation techniques for a roasted corn salsa as harvesting for corn and tomatoes nears, and giveaways are included for participation in taste-testing.
For the children grades 1st to 6th, Schoharie Valley Farm to School Project/CCE will be also be present to involve them in a “FARMERS MARKET SCAVENGER HUNT” while connecting with their parents on local farm to school programs. Each child’s entry helps to qualify their classroom for a Farm to School Field Day drawing, to occur during the upcoming school year.
These special guests accompany the regularly appearing farmers and vendors that take care of the shopping needs for produce, eggs, meats, and honey of all of the farmers market customers.

WHY
In many communities, there are veterans who have not accessed the full range of benefits to which they are entitled to by virtue of their service to our country. This may be due to a lack of awareness of the existing benefits or the complications for enrolling at certain levels. The Festival Farmers Market is dedicated to sharing the information and resources needed by all members of the community. It also has the mission of promoting of healthy eating which it does through its partnerships to bring chefs and “Farm to School” to the market as well as making shopping available via the use of SNAP/EBT and WIC benefits, Farmers Market Senior Nutrition Program and Farmers Market Veterans Nutrition Program coupons.
